Word of the Week
hypocrisy (noun)
Meaning – saying something about you that you are not or are not doing.
Example of using it in a sentence: “Saying that you are doing your homework straight after your lesson but instead leaving it and only doing it just be for the next lesson is hypocrisy.”
Spelling Tip – This word comes from the Greek for ‘acting a theatrical part’ so we get the sense of pretending to be something you are not. We need to split the word up. We just need to remember that ‘s’ is a ‘s’ and not a ‘c’. The ‘s’ sounds like the name for this letter ‘c’ but it is only pretending to be a ‘c’, when in real life it is a ‘s’.
hy + po + cr + i + s +y
Use the word as many times throughout the week as you can. This can be verbally, in your written work or listen out for other people using it.
