Word of the Week
grievance (noun)
Meaning – a real or an imagined caused for complaint, especially for unfair treatment.
Example of using it in a sentence: “My grievance is towards my old school, they did not take the bullying seriously!”
Spelling Tip – the root word comes from the old French of the verb ‘to burden’ and the Middle English for a sense of injury added with the suffix ‘ance’ which is linked to action. So, we end up with the “feeling of being weighed down by an injury”. The tricky bit is the ‘ie’ making the long ‘ee’ sound and in the short ‘i’ sound.
gr + ie + v + ance
Use the word as many times throughout the week as you can. This can be verbally, in your written work or listen out for other people using it.
