Word of the Week
bachelor (noun)
Meaning – a man who is not or has never been married.
Example of using it in a sentence: "Any bride looking for a husband should choose a bachelor to date, as married men have wives who get upset.”.
The word can also mean: a person who holds a first degree from a university.
Example of using it in a sentence: “She has is a Bachelor of Arts”, meaning her university degree is in the arts
Spelling Tip – this is an old French word which is why it ends in the ‘or’ and not ‘er’ like the old middle English. ‘Or’ or ‘er’ at the end of the word tells you what a person is, for example, butcher, baker, candlestick maker. In other words - this person ‘is’ single.
