Word of the Week
Recommend (verb)
Meaning –to put forward either someone or something with approval as being suitable for a particular purpose of role.
Example of using it in a sentence: "Can you recommend a good bike shop in the area?”
Synonyms: advocate, endorse, commend, approve, suggest
Spelling Tip – those of you have been with us for a while will have spotted that this is a Latin word with the prefix ‘re’ meaning ‘again’ and the root meaning ‘giving care of`’ to something. In other words, “would you give your approval to this . . . again?” Splitting the word up this way - you won’t lose the second ‘m’
re + com + mend
Use the word as many times throughout the week as you can. This can be verbally, in your written work or listen out for other people using it.
